Letter: Young offers better ideas for elections

Looking at the results of Tuesday night's elections, two patterns became overwhelmingly clear.

The first is that, as per usual, nearly all of the incumbents won again. The second is that, also as per usual, nearly all of the candidates who spent the most money also won again. The end result? Two more years of the same polarization.

In sum: To use the title of a popular cartoon and Broadway show, American democracy is "Frozen" (capital F).

There is a way out of this eternal morass. I urge everyone genuinely despairing of our broken system to read Andrew Yang's 2021 book, "Forward." Yang offers simple, solid, common-sense solutions to making our nation a truly more democratic place. They range from rank-choice voting to removing all money from the political process. Give it a read.

And incidentally: In addition to more political parties, we need more than two media corporations, too. Fox News focused only on the winning Republican candidates and talked about crime. CNN focused only on the winning Democratic candidates and talked about abortion.

DING! The boxing bell has rung. Back to our corners.
