Fox Valley Marines present $5,000 checks to four local food pantries

During the holiday dedicated to honoring veterans, a group of marines in Aurora selflessly took this time to help fight mounting food insecurity.

The Aurora-based Fox Valley Marines Detachment 1233 used the Veterans Day holiday to gift $20,000 to four local food pantries that serve Aurora.

Raised during the organization's 15th annual Golf Classic, the funds were distributed equally to the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry in Aurora, the Aurora Area Food Pantry, Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, and the Between Friends Food Pantry in Sugar Grove, each receiving a $5,000 check from the marines.

All pantries have reported an exponential increase in demand.

Total profits from the event surpassed $35,000, of which $15,000 was put back into the group's general fund to support yearlong community initiatives.
