Overnight fire damages Lombard business
A fire that damaged a Lombard business early Thursday morning remains under investigation.
Firefighters were called to the 300 block of South Main Street at 12:29 a.m. after a resident in a second-floor apartment smelled smoke and heard a smoke alarm going off, according to a news release. When firefighters arrived at 12:35 a.m. they saw a fire in a first-floor business of the building.
Firefighters evacuated residents living in second-floor apartments and checked adjacent businesses to see if the fire had reached those businesses.
No one was injured in the fire.
Though one business sustained about $50,000 in heat and smoke damage, the building remained habitable for residents living in apartments on the second floor.
Firefighters from Addison, Elmhurst and the Villa Park fire departments as well as the York Center Fire Protection District assisted the Lombard Fire Department.
