Lake County sheriff's office undergoing accreditation assessment

The Lake County sheriff's office is undergoing on-site reassessment this week as part of an accreditation program that will verify its is adhering to recognized professional standards and law enforcement best practices.

The sheriff's office will be judged on 67 Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program standards regarding administration, operations, personnel, and training.

Accreditation demonstrates the office has achieved a level of professionalism among its law enforcement peers and validates the methods in which it provide services in the community. Accreditation also improves accountability while limiting liability and risk exposure.

Agency personnel, elected officials and members of the community are invited to offer comments during a public information call-in session from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at (847) 377-7136. Telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the agency's ability to meet and maintain the ILEAP standards.
