Informational session Thursday on how to become a certified naturalist

Those interested can learn the details of becoming a certified naturalist during a free informational session Thursday about the Kane County Certified Naturalists.

The event is set to take place from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road in St. Charles.

Students must complete six core classes, four field trips, and 30 hours of advanced coursework and/or volunteer work to earn initial Certified Naturalist certification.

The program provides opportunities to develop, lead, and participate in conservation initiatives. Volunteering is strongly encouraged for all participants. Continuing education training courses will be offered annually to maintain certification and further knowledge and skills. Classes begin in January, followed by spring field trips.

Registration for the program closes Dec. 30. To register, visit www.genevaparks.org or call (630) 232-4542. For more information, call (630) 444-3190 or email kccn@kaneforest.com.
