Lake County sheriff launches online portal to help residents recover lost property
The Lake County Sheriff's Office has started a new service to help residents recover lost property.
During a typical year, the sheriff's office obtains dozens of items that are recovered by deputies or turned over by the community. Often there is no way to trace the property to its rightful owner.
Through a new portal, those who lost property can check to see if it was recovered by the sheriff's office. If an item is on the list and recognized by its owner, the owner can call the sheriff's Evidence Division to work through a reclamation process, which may involve producing documents to show ownership.
