Letter: The best candidate to lead DuPage County
I write to voice my personal support of DuPage County Board Member Greg Hart over state representative Deb Conroy, in this year's election for DuPage County chair. After listening to Greg at several events, hearing several interviews, and speaking with him personally, I believe he is the best choice for DuĀPage County.
I am a new resident of DuPage County, but my wife and her family have been here for decades. We moved to this county for two reasons: opportunity and safety. And I believe that Deb Conroy's election as chair would jeopardize both.
First, opportunity. I understand that Rep. Conroy has, at nearly every chance, voted to increase taxes at the state level - including a vote for the largest gas tax in Illinois history. In a time when energy prices are increasing, this lack of judgment should not be rewarded. Greg has managed budgets in the private and public sector, and I appreciate Greg's focus on making sure that DuPage County continues to be an economic powerhouse in the state, and indeed, in the country.
Second, safety. As the father of a young boy, it is important that I know he is safe in this community. Greg Hart has done tremendous work fighting the opioid epidemic, winning national awards for his endeavors. Greg has also shown concern and displeasure with the current version of the SAFE-T Act - legislation that is opposed by nearly every state's attorney in Illinois.
Greg has shown that he can be bipartisan, and it is important that we have a chair who understands how to work with all stakeholders.
Rep. Conroy has never served in public office at the county level, and it is important that we have a DuPage County Chair who can hit the ground running on Day 1.
