Letter: Candidates recognize need for choice

Regarding a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, "This is something central to a woman's life, to her dignity. It's a decision she must make for herself. And when government controls that decision for her, she's being treated as less than a full adult human responsible for her own choices."

Maria Peterson and Nabeela Syed, candidates for Illinois state senate and state representative, believe that government does not have the right to dictate to a woman how she manages her body and reproductive health care.

Their opponents, however, do not believe women should be allowed control over their own bodies. In states that have tightened abortion restrictions after the fall of Roe v. Wade, we are already seeing women facing the possibility of bleeding out and dying from ectopic pregnancies, women (and young girls) who've been raped being denied abortions, women being made to deliver fetuses with horrific abnormalities who will not survive and pregnant women being denied cancer treatment, to name just a few of the atrocities currently reported.

No one likes abortion, most especially a woman who must make that difficult decision for whatever reason. If you believe that a woman has the right to control her own reproductive decisions and not be forced to adhere to governmental control of her body and her health, then please vote for Nabeela Syed and Maria Peterson.

They know that women must be free to make the choices that are best for them and that it is up to the individual woman to be the decision-maker - not the government. Vote for Nabeela Syed and Maria Peterson to help ensure Illinois women maintain their reproductive freedom, health and dignity.
