State rep achieved much in first term
I'm a high school teacher in Naperville, and I noticed your recent endorsement of Rich Janor over Janet Yang Rohr for state representative. Specifically, I saw your characterization of Janet's "respectable, if cautious, first term, but one in which she has done little to distinguish herself."
I adamantly disagree with this point. I won't go into a list of every legislative accomplishment that the Representative has made, but I will bring up her strong support for teachers, students and education- regardless of the possible political blowback. Janet was the leading sponsor on House Bill 1167, which requires school districts to provide paid, administrative leave to employees for COVID-19-related absences. Janet knew that keeping teachers, students and schools safe is #1 priority. A freshman representative got it done and got it done through some tense negotiations across the table from the governor's office.
Meanwhile, her opponent, Rich Janor, is endorsed by the extremist Awake Illinois group, which has threatened school board members and the safety of classrooms throughout the State.
Who can we really count on to keep our schools safe? I know my answer.
