Perplexing policy on election judges
You may have heard recently about the need for election judges. I have been an early voting judge and an Election Day judge since 2008. I have been recently informed that I can no longer serve, because I have not worked three Election Days (because of family issues) in the 14 years and more than 20 different primary and general elections I have served. I would like to propose that Lake County under the current County Clerk Robin O'Connor take a look at this policy and potentially reinstate all qualified judges.
The idea of punishing a willing and able judge, even though I notified the clerk's office of my absences many days before the election, seems to be warped thinking.
In addition, to attract more election judges, it also might be helpful to review the fee schedule for judges, which currently is not comparable to nearby counties. If Ms. O"Connor wants to save money, she could do away with her idea of issuing to the judges commemorative buttons for each election.
Most importantly though, regardless of the above points, get out to vote. The country needs your personal commitment and support.
