Naperville Park District set for Halloween Happening, Pumpkin Smash
The Naperville Park District is gearing up for its Halloween Happening event and Pumpkin Smash.
The Halloween Happening, presented by Woody Buick/GMC, is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, located west of Centennial Beach at 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court. The Pumpkin Smash will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 5 at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, located at 811 S. West St.
The Halloween Happening was created in 1983 as a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. The free event is for children ages 10 and younger, and features games and activities. There's also a performance by the Elan Dance Company at 1:30 p.m.
The Pumpkin Smash, entering its sixth year, is designed for people to drop off used pumpkins for composting. Last year, more than 22,000 pounds of pumpkins were smashed and composted.
