Barrington keeps playoff hopes alive

Barrington is still alive.

The Broncos' hopes for a miracle ending took a strong turn Friday as Barrington upended Conant 14-6.

Barrington (3-5, 2-2) headed into its game Friday looking to align the stars in order to qualify for the state playoffs. The Broncos needed to win their final two games against Conant and Fremd. They then need the state playoff field to add at-large qualifiers with four wins to the 256-team field.

Step one was completed Friday when the Broncos' Ayden Salley recovered a Conant fumble with 49 seconds left to clinch the victory.

Dillon Fitzpatrick put the Broncos up 7-0 on a one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

Barrington took a 14-0 lead early in the third quarter. Payton Soske had a four-yard touchdown run. It was set up by a 50-yard kickoff return by Travis Soto to start the second half.

Conant (4-4, 0-4) tried a furious comeback as Dominic Mininni scored on a two-yard run with 7:17 to play. The Cougars then drove to the Barrington 28-yard line, but Barrington's Jon Fier stripped the ball and Salley fell on the loose ball.

Conant, which now has lost its last four games, can still qualify for the playoffs with a win over Schaumburg next Friday.
