Girls tennis: Siegfort continues happy homecoming at Jacobs with sectional title

Chloe Siegfort is happy to be back in Algonquin, and Jacobs coach Jon Betts is glad to have her back in the fold.

After being a Class 2A state qualifier as a freshman and sophomore, Siegfort spent her junior season at the LAT Tennis Academy in Boynton Beach, Fl.

Siegfort, 33-6, is back at Jacobs and ready to make her second trip to the state finals hosted next Thursday through Saturday in the northwest suburbs.

The top four finishers in singles and doubles from sectionals will be headed to the state tournament.

Because of COVID, there wasn't a state finals her sophomore campaign.

The No. 1 seeded Siegfort claimed top singles honors at Saturday's Jacobs sectional with a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Barrington freshman phenom No. 2 seeded Shriya Ramesh.

Siegfort will attend Division II University of Sioux Falls next year on a full ride scholarship and major in nursing.

"Florida was a great experience but it is nice to be back in my hometown for my senior year," said Siegfort. "The championship match was tough and hard fought. She is a very talented player. I am hoping for a top four finish at the state finals next weekend."

Betts understood Siegfort's decision to go to Florida.

"Chloe is a fantastic, phenomenal player," said Betts. "We welcomed her back with open arms. She went to Florida during the COVID season and she made the best decision for her."

Ramesh is happy to be heading to the state finals as a freshman.

"It is very exciting," said Ramesh. "I played very well and hung in there against a very good player. I tried to play to me strengths. We were both mentally tough. As a senior she had some tricks. It was a great learning experience for me."

Barrington won the team title with a score of 32 while Jacobs was second with 21 points.

The Fillies' top doubles team of Olivia Paik and Caitlin Kavanaugh, the top seed, defeated teammates and second-seeded Emily Yang-Sakina Kanji 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match.

In the singles third place match, third-seeded Kylie Cohn knocked off No. 4 Emily Yoon of Barrington, 2-6, 6-1 (1).

The third-place winners in doubles was No. 5 seed Eliska Rasborchek-Angelina Vavalle of Grant who defeated No. 3 Maggie Naughton-Katie Hamill of Crystal Lake Central, 7-5, 6-4.
