Letter: Lacking ideas, GOP offers distractions

Compare what Democrats and Republicans offer to help ordinary people.

At the national level, most Democrats support expanded health care, free preschool and college, lower-cost daycare, labor unions, a higher minimum wage and job-creating programs to battle climate change.

Republicans offer zero such proposals, which would probably raise taxes and reduce profits for their wealthy and corporate big donors.

To divert attention from this contrasting record, Republicans try to shift the focus to social and cultural issues, to accusing Democrats of being soft on crime and to demonizing and scapegoating immigrants, Blacks, Mexicans and Muslims.

Ordinary people so distracted acquiesce in their own economic plight while the rich keep getting richer.
