Letter: Actually, Salvi is just right for Illinois

It is often debated on the \Opinion page where the Herald stands politically. Your endorsements tell the story. Endorsements do carry a lot of weight for uninformed voters. It is not that you endorsed Tammy Duckworth for Senate. It is the endorsement itself - over half of which discussed the role of senator and your current read of the attitude of the nation - finishing with saying this is a vote for democracy.

For one, we have a republic and secondly, even you write that Kathy Salvi is a strong candidate. Thus, she's against democracy? Your negative take on her is that her views are too right for Illinois. How about telling us what her views are and why you view it that way? I thought that the job of the media is to inform, yet I remember only one other brief article referencing her opinions.

We have two senators and Dick Durbin votes far left and all pro-Biden, Schumer and Pelosi. Yet in your analysis, you want to continue the status quo. The majority of the nation (and Illinois, I assume) feels that we are heading in the wrong direction. Simple question, are you better off than you were two years ago or six years ago when Duckworth was elected?

You praise her for her military service, rightly so, but she wants to be senator not general. You write that she is hard working yet according to Propublica, she had the second worst voting record in the 116th Congress. Granted, she has improved there, but only as a rubber stamp vote for Durbin, et. al., not someone who thinks independently with her constituents' best interests in mind.

What we need is a change for Illinois - someone who will be independent and be her own person. Outside Chicago and the media, Illinois is not far left and maybe Kathy Salvi is just right for Illinois.
