Letter: Best for DuPage chair
Headlines are often filled with the most controversial, passion-inflaming issues. These issues matter, but they're typically not the ones we materially impact with our vote, particularly in local elections.
The local offices we most influence - like county board, sheriff and county clerk - determine less controversial but no less important issues, like how we care for our roads, water and waste, the effectiveness and efficiency of our taxing bodies and the safety of our communities.
This fall, vote to positively impact our community. Vote for the leaders with the best plan to lower taxes at this inflationary time when families are struggling to make ends meet. Vote for those who have demonstrated a capacity to lead good, effective government and promote community safety.
Perhaps nowhere is this opportunity more apparent than in the DuĀPage County Board Chair election. This position has significant influence over our daily lives, but nationwide controversies unrelated to the job threaten to negatively affect the outcome.
Greg Hart is the superior candidate. He's a successful business professional helping companies be more efficient and effective and positively transform their workforce. Greg is in favor of lower taxes, less regulation and public safety. And Greg is endorsed by Dan Cronin, the current chair who this newspaper recently reported has effectively managed the budget to avoid tax increases amid record inflation.
Greg's opponent has a long history of supporting tax hikes: on income taxes, gas taxes and property taxes. Her lack of executive or other professional experience relevant to managing county government is concerning. And the misleadingly-named Safe-T Act she supported undermines public safety.
This is just one example. There are others, like the race for DuPage County Clerk. In all elections, vote based on the issues that matter for the position, but especially local elections.
