Man killed in two-car crash in Beach Park

One man was killed and another was injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sheridan Road and West Howard Street in Beach Park.

The crash was between a Toyota Prius making a left turn from Howard Street onto northbound Sheridan Road and an Infiniti sedan heading south on Sheridan, Lake County sheriff's Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.

The man who was driving the Toyota had to be cut from his vehicle and was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead, Covelli said. His name has not yet been released.

Covelli said the other man - described by police as a 32-year-old from Waukegan - was driving the Infiniti sedan erratically and too fast before the crash, according to some witnesses. The 32-year-old also was taken to Vista East with serious injuries not considered to be life-threatening, officials said.

Covelli said the sheriff's Technical Crash Investigation Team is working to determine the speed of the Infiniti at the time of the crash as part of an ongoing investigation.
