Art enthusiasts invited to Watercolor Guild meeting

Ken Call will be the guest artist at the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church, 43 W. Grass Lake Road, Lake Villa. The meeting is free for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Born and raised in Rochelle, Ken went on to graduate from the American Academy of Art in 1980 with an Associate Degree in illustration and watercolor.

He has worked as a national freelance artist for many years and spent 1993 and 1994 studying and painting in Paris, France. Ken is now living in Northbrook with his wife and two children.

After beginning his career as a studio artist, he soon branched out on his own, beginning a successful freelance career, which to date has led to the creation of more than 500 illustrations for books, magazines, art publishers, advertising agencies and corporations.

In the last few years, Call has made the transition to fine art and portraiture. Many of his originals are hanging in galleries and homes across the country.

The Lakes Region Watercolor Guild welcomes new members and urges anyone interested in watercolor, whether as a painter or simply an art lover, to attend its meetings. The guild sponsors workshops for its members with professional artists from all over the country.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, September through May. Membership fees are $25 per individual, $30 per family.
