See military tanks and trucks at Holocaust Museum Oct. 16

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is welcoming guests of all ages to its military themed, family-friendly outdoor day on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Get up close with military vehicles, dress in army gear, and meet active and veteran members of the military community, including soldiers from Illinois Army National Guard's 1970th Quartermaster Company in North Riverside.

Hot chocolate, cider, doughnuts and other treats from food trucks will be available for purchase. Attendees also will be able to purchase admission to the museum to explore its current exhibition, "Ghost Army: The Combat Con Artists of World War II."

Touch-A-Tank will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Illinois Holocaust & Education Center, 9603 Woods Drive in Skokie.

Tickets are free to the public, but reservations are required at www.ilholocaustmuseum.org.

"Ghost Army: The Combat Con Artists of World War II" tells the heroic tale of the top-secret U.S. Army's 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, known as the "Ghost Army," and their covert operations across Europe that helped win the war, armed with nothing heavier than .50 caliber machine guns.

This carefully selected group of artists, engineers, professional soldiers, and draftees - the first mobile, multimedia, tactical deception unit in U.S. Army history - saved thousands of lives and played an important part in Allied victory in World War II.

Military vehicles at the event are provided by the Illinois Army National Guard's 1970th Quartermaster Company in North Riverside and First Division Museum at Cantigny. The program is presented in partnership with First Division Museum.

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center honors the survivors and victims of the Holocaust and transforms history into current, relevant and universal lessons in humanity.

The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, visit www.ilholocaustmuseum.org or call (847) 967-4800.
