Letter: Political parties don't control stock prices

Regarding Paul Compton's Oct. 1 letter "Don't forget the stock market woes": The stock market is a casino where day traders guess how each other will respond to fleeting social media chatter. Day traders get rich off option trading, short selling and other tactics, whether that causes stock prices to go up or down. They don't care if that means the stock in an IRA account cannot be relied on to consistently cover a retiree's living expenses.

They must get such a laugh at those who forgot the stock market realities exposed by last year's GameStop debacle and continue to believe stock prices are controlled by which political party we vote into office.
