Still a little summer left: Harmony Fest marks end of Alfresco season in Arlington Heights
More than 60 booths are in place and the stage is set for a weekend of food, drink and musical entertainment in downtown Arlington Heights.
Friday night is the start of the second Harmony Fest, the two-day downtown block party within the Arlington Alfresco outdoor dining zone that marks the end of summer. Vail Avenue and Campbell Street will finally reopen to vehicles Sunday, but not until after a celebration featuring the Taste of Arlington Heights' 18 restaurant vendors, and five bands on the stage in Harmony Park.
The fest, sponsored by the village's special events commission and the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, is an outgrowth of the old Mane Event and Taste that was long held in the same area in August. The event runs from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Live music kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with Second Hand Soul Band, followed by Mike & Joe at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, School of Rock's music showcase will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by How Rude! at 6 p.m., and Infinity at 8:30 p.m.
The Nak4 Orthodontics Kids' Zone - featuring face painters, balloon twisters, inflatable games, mini-golf and giveaways - will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. It will be located near the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre.
Organizers encourage attendees to park in one of the village's nine nearby parking lots or garages.
