DAR Delivers School Supplies to Sunny Hill Elementary School

The Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, in Barrington, provided an abundance of vital supplies at the beginning of the 2022 school year for the children and teachers at Sunny Hill Elementary School of Carpentersville, in Barrington's District 220.

The Chapter's Community Classroom Chair, Joyce Moynihan, and Regent Joyce Wright delivered 390 nut-free snacks and 1,078 school supplies, which included: Crayons, glue sticks, pencils, markers, spirals, Kleenex boxes, and items that teach students about the U.S. Constitution. The Chapter plans to deliver a supply of snacks and supplies throughout the school year.

Sunny Hill Elementary Principal Lizzeth Fausto and Assistant Principal Edgar De La Mora generously thanked the Chapter for the donation. Special thanks to Sunny Hill Elementary School for collecting unusable crayons for the Chapter to recycle through SCARCE, an award-winning environmental education nonprofit dedicated to creating sustainable communities (SCARCE.org).

The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded 50 years ago in Barrington, in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women's service organization headquartered in Washington, DC.

Due to fund-raising efforts throughout the year, the Chapter contributes financially to several 501 (c) (3) organizations whose missions support that of NSDAR: historic preservation, education, patriotism, conservation, and Native Americans.

NSDAR provides more than $1.5 million in scholarships annually. It is the largest group of participants in support of Wreaths Across America. Through its various programs and initiatives, NSDAR strives to increase the awareness of men and women who achieved American independence, including those of diverse backgrounds.

Since its founding in 1890 over one million women have joined both nationally and around the world. Membership in NSDAR is open to any woman aged 18 and over who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.
