Aurora Methodists revisit old favorites at community hymn sing

Aurora's Wesley United Methodist Church rocked with gospel music Sunday, Sept. 18.

The church held a community hymn sing that featured more than 20 requests by congregants.

Selections included "Marching Up to Zion," "Rock of Ages" and "Standing on the Promises."

Thew Elliott, Wesley traditional music director, led the event, providing vocals and piano accompaniment. He began leading hymn sings at age 13.

The event was the third of three events celebrating a "Fall Kickoff" for church programs during the past week.

Requests came from the United Methodist hymnal and "Faith We Sing" songbook.

"We'll honor all requests as we sing old favorites and revisit memories," Elliott said in advance.

Attendees were invited to sample refreshments after the event.
