Kane County hosting virtual open house about floodplains

The Kane County Department of Environmental and Water Resources will hold its first Floodplain Awareness Virtual Open House later this month.

The program, offered with support from The Conservation Foundation, will cover an introduction to floodplains and offer information about what can be done for wet and dry flood proofing, options for long-term maintenance and conservation-minded development that supports stormwater management.

Attendees also will learn how to set up backyard rain barrels and rain gardens, and what responsibilities homeowner associations have for stormwater basin management.

The educational series runs Sept. 26-30. To register and learn more, go to www.countyofkane.org/FDER/Pages/environmentalResources/waterResources/floodplain.aspx.
