Letter: Looking for fairness in SAFE-T Act
How many readers are aware of the SAFE-T Act (Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today Act) that goes into effect in Illinois Jan. 1? Under this act, non-detainable crimes will include second degree murder, drug-induced homicide, arson, aggravated battery, kidnapping, burglary, robbery, intimidation, aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing, drug offenses and threatening a public official.
Bottom line: those arrested and charged for any of the above crimes will be immediately released without putting up bail.
Exactly who is this fair to?
