Pedestrian killed by train near Elm and Osterman

A person was struck and killed by a train near Elm Street and Osterman Avenue in Deerfield on Sept. 4.

The Deerfield Police Department said officers were dispatched to the area at around 4:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a southbound Canadian Pacific freight train.

The Canadian Pacific Police Service and the Lake County Coroner's Office led the initial investigation, with assistance by Metra Police and the Deerfield Police Department.

Though the area was under investigation for several hours, a Metra spokesperson said trains were allowed to move on one track after about a 40-minute delay.
