Letter: Muddying the issues

Regarding Mark Stastny's Aug. 28 letter, "Clarity on who is defending democracy":

Although I totally disagree with the actions of some citizens on Jan. 6, 2021, I cannot agree with the author's "crystal clarity." It is not clear to me that Democrats are working to defend and preserve our democracy when Democratic organizations donated money to help Darren Bailey's gubernatorial campaign in Illinois. This practice also occurred in other states as well. According to a Politico article from Aug. 1: " About three dozen former Democratic House and Senate members have signed on to an open letter blistering national Democrats for their meddling in this year's Republican primaries, often to the benefit of pro-Donald Trump hard-liners." The motivation was to help candidates believed to be easier to defeat in the fall. I believe such intervention muddied the primary process. So much for crystal clarity.
