Letter: Bring in new leaders

Reading or listening to the news has become increasingly difficult to take in the last few years. It was especially so after I read through two stories in the Aug. 24 Daily Herald and heard a news item on radio that same day.

First, I read that President Biden will move to "erase" $10,000 of the balance in the Federal Student Loan Program borrowers accounts and further suspend the borrowers" need to make other payments for six more months. This, of course, is a slap in the face of any others who are repaying or have repaid their student loan debts or who may have sacrificed other desires so they could pay cash for college costs. Now, as taxpayers, they get to pay expenses of others, too.

The second Daily Herald story reported the Biden Administration's glee that it will only spend $1.03 trillion more than it brings in for the fiscal year. This is less than the $1.7 trillion spent last year that had to be put on the nation's credit card.

The radio news item informed us the Biden Administration has decided to send another nearly $3 billion in aid to Ukraine. This is in addition to the $10.6 billion sent previously to the war-torn nation.

I submit that, if spent, this sum would benefit our nation more if the funds were used to complete the Southern Border Wall and help officials repel the hordes that breach that border daily.

We are regularly being sold out by a leadership in Washington that promulgates bad decisions and underpins them with worse fiscal policies. This group diminishes our nation's national security and our financial futures. We need a different group.
