Library should reconsider 'drag' event
I am a Downers Grove mom of two teens who regularly participate in library programs at the DG library. We love our library.
Both of my teens are upset by the proposed Drag Queen Bingo. Actually, they had planned to walk to the library today and decided not to when they heard about the Drag Queen Bingo and today's media attention.
This is a slap in the face to the "Me Too" movement. Drag shows do have a sexual element, and if this element is toned down for the library, then it is essentially grooming the children so that they feel comfortable in this type of sexual setting. They are minors. If the library goes ahead with this program, down the road these children will be saying "me too."
I hope they reconsider this program.
We appreciate all of the great programs that we have participated in at the DG library in the past and hope that the library will continue to be a place where our teens feel safe from being sexualized.
