Parking lot at former Catty property in Huntley to cost village nearly $2.3 million

With the Cornell apartment buildings being renovated, the Huntley village board is turning its attention to the public parking lot near the development.

Trustees unanimously approved two contracts totaling nearly $2.3 million at Thursday's board meeting. They call for creating 137 parking spaces that will serve the development and public parking needs. Much of the work involves landscaping, utility, lighting and pavement markings, documents show.

The first contract for little more than $2 million was awarded to Marengo-based Schroeder Asphalt Services Inc., and the second contract, totaling about $200,000, went to Rosemont-based Christopher B. Burke Engineering for construction engineering services.

The Cornell, formerly the Catty property at 11117 S. Church St., will be home to 37 apartments once completed. Totaling about $5 million in investment, it is expected to be "substantially completed" by July 30, 2023.

The parking lot work near the Cornell development is among a few that the village will be undertaking in the downtown area. The village also intends to improve parking near the former fire station, which is being converted into living space and a restaurant.
