Letter: Who pays income taxes? It's not the corporations
Beginning at age 18, every year of my working career I was a member of a union except for the years spent in the U.S. Navy.
Now on to my subject: corporate taxation. Every time a politician says their pending tax bill will only tax the rich corporations, I head directly to the bathroom in a rage and vomit. Corporations don't pay income taxes!
Assume that in one particular year the economy is in the dumps; a recession. Corporation ABC not only doesn't make a profit, it loses money. How much income tax does Corp ABC pay? If you answered "Zero" you are correct. Corporation ABC did not sell enough product or provide enough services to make a profit.
Now assume that the following year is an economic boom year. Everybody is working, money is flowing, and people are having a good time.
Corporation ABC is, also, having a profitable year and must pay some income tax. Where did the money for Corp ABC taxes come from? If you said the American consumer, you are correct.
So understand that every time Congress raises income taxes on corporations, know that Mr. and Mrs. Consumer are footing the bill. The corporation is simply a funnel, a pass through to the federal government. Please, politicians, enough with the obfuscations. Just be honest.
