How you can adopt a Lake County highway

Daily Herald report

Applications are being accepted for the Lake County Division of Transportation's Adopt a Highway program. Volunteers adopt a section of a county highway and commit to cleaning the roadside twice a year. There are 39 roads available for adoption. Volunteers are provided with high-visibility safety vests, trash bags and safety information. In recognition, an Adopt A Highway sign with the group's name will be installed at the site of cleanup. Open enrollment for cleanups this fall is through Sept. 2. Participants must be at least 10 years old. Anyone younger than 18 must have adult supervision. Visit the LCDOT website or call Keely Wells, Adopt A Highway coordinator, at (847) 377-7472 for details.
