Stevenson District 125 board appoints new member

The Stevenson High School District 125 school board Monday appointed Don Tyer to fill the vacancy left by board member David Weisberg, who resigned in June after 11 years of service.

Tyer's appointment is through May 1, 2023.

He currently serves as a prosecutor in the felony trial division of the state's attorney's office. His past experience includes working as counsel to municipal entities and school districts. He advised schools on matters related to special education, employment and student discipline.

Previously, Tyer was a social studies teacher and an administrator at schools in Chicago and northern Illinois. He also has worked as an educational consultant in the Middle East.

Tyer received his bachelor's degree in teaching of social studies from the University of Illinois. He has volunteered with the Long Grove Historical Society and acted as Cubmaster for the Cub Scouts at Country Meadows Elementary School for seven years.

"It is this unique blend of experience that we believe really sets Don apart and will make him a valuable addition to our board," board President Steve Frost said.
