Letter: To protect the bridge

Here are a few ideas to prevent/deter vehicles from plowing into Long Grove's covered bridge:

• Close the road to all vehicles

• Close the road to all trucks

• Put up an overhead bar on each side the height of the bridge so if a vehicle hits it they don't proceed.

• Divert vehicle traffic around the bridge and make the bridge for pedestrians only.

• Post a sign indicating a monetary fine plus expenses for plowing into the bridge.

If none of these work, add stop light cameras, people avoid those and/or seem to be more alert and careful.
