Letter: Don't let suburbs follow city on crime
People who are voting for Sean Casten need to be reminded of why they live in the suburbs. One of the main reasons for moving to the suburbs is to escape the violent crime which has become endemic in the Democratic Party-controlled cities. Unfortunately, crime has come to the suburbs - hijacking, smash and grab robberies, catalytic converter theft, etc. are now becoming common occurrences; the reason to a large extent is due to social justice warriors like Casten's political soulmate Kim Foxx (the soft-on-crime Cook County DA). It's a safe bet that many of the criminals venturing into the 6th District have been released by Foxx.
Casten's "George Floyd Justice in Policing Act" is basically a manifesto to defund and incapacitate the police. Among other things, it seeks to end qualified immunity for police officers.
This translates to cops risk getting sued every time something bad happens to a criminal who resists arrest. Do you think provisions like this will reduce or increase crime?
Voters in San Francisco and Los Angeles are starting to recall their lefty DA's as they wise up to the reality behind the sweet sound of "social justice" which really means "let the violent criminals go because they are the victims of society."
It's not too late to prevent the suburbs from turning into the city but we need to vote wisely.
