Edge Ice Arena to host world ice competition

BENSENVILLE - Nearly 750 ice skaters are registered to compete in the 2022 ISI World Recreational Team Championships on Aug. 4-7 at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

ISI Worlds is recognized as the largest annual recreational figure skating competition in the country and offers more than 25 skating event categories for individuals, partners, groups and teams.

This year's competition will feature competitors of all skill levels representing 59 rink teams from 15 states and Thailand, with ages ranging from 3 to 85. Thirty skaters from Bensenville's own Crystal Edge Figure Skating Team will be representing the Edge Ice Arena in both individual and team events.

In addition, 2022 Olympian and U.S. Champion Mariah Bell will star in the ISI Benefit Show on Aug. 6 at the Edge Ice Arena. The exhibition will also highlight selected performances by Worlds competitors. The ISI Benefit Show is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at www.skateisi.org/benefit-show.

The ISI recreational ice skating program is based on "participation, not elimination" and features numerous major recreational competitions each year, with Worlds being the largest. Some of the national champions and Olympians who started in ISI programs include Jason Brown, Ashley Wagner, Gracie Gold, Kristi Yamaguchi, Michelle Kwan, Mirai Nagasu, Sasha Cohen, Evan Lysacek, Dorothy Hamill and more.
