Antioch police arrest teen in connection with string of vehicle burglaries
Antioch police have arrested a 15-year-old in connection with a string of at least 20 vehicle burglaries in recent months, officials said Wednesday.
In each of the burglaries, police believe the juvenile and perhaps one or more accomplices entered the vehicles through unlocked doors. Investigators used security camera footage to connect the teen to the offenses, police said.
The juvenile was taken into custody over the weekend during an unrelated incident in Waukegan and admitted to participating in the burglaries, according to police.
Antioch Police Chief Geoff Guttschow said the department has stepped up patrols and resources to stop the burglaries, including adding foot patrols.
"Unfortunately, this type of crime is happening all over the suburbs," Guttschow said. "This isn't just one group of thieves, but a common crime among those looking to take advantage of others."
Police encourage those with additional information on recent car burglaries, including those in possession of security camera video, to call (847) 270-9111.
