Letter: Anger to action should be our focus now
To be able to walk my kids to day camp feels like a privilege in the environment we're in now. Most professionals suggest not watching the news or scrolling social media too much to avoid increasing your anxiety and separating from what's real vs. what's sensationalized.
After the Highland Park mass shooting on July Fourth, how could we not? How could we not be disturbed or feel angry?
Anger to action is my focus. Even sending a letter to our Illinois senators doesn't feel enough. I know I'll just get a canned letter back (you know it's true) that has nothing to do with the matter at hand.
I'm so grateful for our local police department and their involvement with the community. I love seeing them out when I bring my family to summer events. Yet, I don't want them or our community to experience what Highland Park did.
We are a world full of amazing and unique differences, but I believe we all want the present and future to be something we can be proud of.
How do we make this stop? How do we make things better from here? Bueller?
