District 64 agrees to sell headquarters site for $1.32 million

With a move planned, the Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 board has agreed to sell its longtime headquarters.

Officials soon no longer will need the Hendee Educational Service Center at 164 S. Prospect Ave. in Park Ridge because Jefferson School in Niles is being converted into a new headquarters. That project is part of a $38 million building expansion effort at Jefferson and the district's five elementary schools.

Administrators are scheduled to move this fall.

During its Thursday night meeting at Lincoln School in Park Ridge, the school board voted unanimously to sell the Park Ridge property, which takes up less than a half-acre, to a limited liability company called 805 W. Touhy for $1.32 million. District officials sought sealed bids for the site and received one offer.

The agreed-upon sales price was the minimum price set by district officials for the property.

No information was available about the people behind the offer or their plans for the site.

Board member Tom Sotos called the deal "a fair purchase agreement."

Board President Denise Pearl called the sale "very exciting."

A former post office, the Hendee building memorializes former District 64 Superintendent Raymond Hendee. Hendee died in 1998 and the building was named in his honor later that year.

The school board voted last year to renovate Jefferson and offer full-day kindergarten at all five elementary schools. Construction started this year, and the new classrooms are expected to be ready this fall.
