The Lombard Police Department made 300 driving under the influence arrests in 2021, leading the department to rank 3rd in Illinois, according to numbers compiled by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.
In 2021, the department saw a 32 percent increase in DUI arrests, compared to the 227 arrests made in 2020.
The Lombard Police Department remains committed to keeping residents and motorists safe by showing a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to intoxicated driving. Throughout the year, Lombard participates in "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns for events and holidays including the Superbowl, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the December holiday season, which also includes New Year's.
"Our efforts to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the road has consistently led the department to rank among the top departments in the State for DUI arrests," commented Police Chief Roy Newton. "While we are proud of this work, our goal is to one day have no impaired drivers to arrest. Until then, we will continue to crack down on drunk and impaired drivers to help keep Lombard a safe place to live, work and visit."
