Bridge project begins this week in Aurora

Traffic on Farnsworth Avenue at Indian Trail in Aurora will be impacted beginning this week as a major construction project begins.

The bridge structure just north of Indian Trail Road, which carries Farnsworth Avenue over Indian Creek, will be replaced. First built in 1970, the structure has had no reconstruction, rehabilitation, or repair history and is due for a complete rebuild.

The project will require traffic on Farnsworth to be reduced to one lane in each direction. Temporary traffic signal installation will begin this week.

The bridge is in a predominantly commercial area approximately one mile south of I-88. All businesses will be accessible during construction.

The improved bridge will have four lanes of through traffic, one left-turn lane, one right-turn lane, shared-use sidewalks on each side, and decorative railings. Lighting also will be incorporated into the bridge for improved visibility at night.
