Nicor Gas employees show their 'energy to serve' during Volunteer Week

For more than 25 years, Nicor Gas employees and their families have rolled up their sleeves to donate their time and resources to community organizations across the company's service territory during the annual Volunteer Week every summer. This year, employees donated more than 600 hours of service at nearly a dozen projects across northern Illinois.

"At Nicor Gas, we are committed to serving our communities and customers beyond the delivery of clean, safe and reliable natural gas service," said Wendell Dallas, president and CEO of Nicor Gas. "This year's Volunteer Week is my first with Nicor Gas, and I am proud to be a part of a team of dedicated employees who are passionate about volunteerism and serving their neighbors right here at home."

This Volunteer Week, more than 200 employees made a difference in their local communities where they live, work and serve by:

• Packed more than eight tons of food - the equivalent of the weight of a school bus - that will provide 14,620 meals at the Northern Illinois Food Banks in Joliet and Rockford.

• Provided 520 grocery bags of food for 130 households at Restoration Ministries in Harvey.

• Planted 300 new saplings with the Natural Land Institute at Silver Creek Woods Preserve in Rockford. As these saplings grow into trees, they can absorb an average of 22 pounds of carbon each year for the first 20 years of its life - that's 6,600 pounds in just one year!

• Packed 600 care packages for local residents in partnership with the United Way of Metro Chicago.

Since 2018, Nicor Gas employees have donated more than 3,000 hours/resources to more than 650 communities across the company's service territory across the state.
