Kane County Forest Preserve seeks volunteers to collect invasive crawfish

The Kane County Forest Preserve District is seeking volunteers to help roundup rusty crayfish, an invasive species, from local streams and rivers.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at two locations: Glenwood Park Forest Preserve, 1644 South River St., Batavia, and at Primrose Farm, 5N726 Crane Road., St. Charles.

Families are encouraged to participate with dip nets to collect, identify and remove some rusty crayfish. Volunteers are also advised to prepare to get wet, and to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get muddy.

Collected crayfish will be used as food for captive animals maintained at sponsoring agencies' nature centers.

No registration is required. For more information on this free event, call (630) 444-3190 or visit kaneforest.com.
