Hey Nonny joins in Independent Venue Week

Arlington Heights music venue Hey Nonny announced its participation in 2022's Independent Venue Week, taking place July 11-17.

Independent Venue Week brings together venues, fans, rising and established artists, promoters, labels, media and tastemakers for a series of shows curated by hundreds of independent venues and promoters.

Celebrating its fifth year, this year's program highlights the locally-owned and operated live performance spaces that serve as the cultural and economic backbone of major cities and small towns across the country.

"Hey Nonny is the classic local, independent venue," said co-owner Chip Brooks. "We're proud to make our wildly interesting musical lineup part of the nationwide celebration of the small venues that are so important to local communities like ours."

Independent Venue Week is being celebrated nationally and supported by performers from all corners of the musical world.

"I wouldn't be here without the independent venue. After performing in local clubs for years, it was the independent venues that were the first to book me to play for audiences beyond New Orleans," said 2022 Independent Venue Week Artist Ambassador Big Freedia.

"Live music is still recovering from a few tough years. We need to support independent venues now more than ever."

"There are no global artists without independent venues providing the first opportunity for them to shine," said Cecilie Nielsen, senior director of special projects at Marauder, the firm that runs Independent Venue Week in the U.S.

"These businesses are the cultural touchstones of their communities and essential to the global music industry."

As part of Independent Venue Week, Hey Nonny is presenting an all-star lineup of performers - some in ticketed shows and many in free events.

The week starts off with Chicago's own international blues star Toronzo Cannon in a ticketed show on Tuesday, July 12.

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Pieta Brown takes the stage Wednesday, July 13.

On Thursday and Friday, July 14-15, Hey Nonny features free shows after the Sounds of Summer concerts in Harmony Park, featuring songwriter Karlye Lepetina on Thursday and the Jared Rabin Band on Friday.

Jon Buschner kicks things off earlier on July 15 for Hey Nonny's HeyDay Happy Hour at 4 p.m.

Saturday, July 16, begins with Keith Baumann highlighting Hey Nonny's Bluegrass Brunch, followed by Jon Babin for the HeyDay Happy Hour. National headliner Griffin House will take to the stage for a Saturday night show.

Finally, music fans can enjoy guitarist John Behling at the Sunday Jazz Brunch on July 17.
