Scholarship Assistance Fund Dollars for Scholars celebrates 2022 scholarship recipients
PROSPECT HEIGHTS - Scholarship Assistance Fund (SAF) Dollars for Scholars held its 2022 scholarship reception June 17 at Hawthorne Global Aviation Services in Wheeling.
The two-hour catered gathering focused on the accomplishments and educational pursuits of this year's scholarship recipients. One-Year Academic Scholarships were awarded to the following 2022 high school graduates: Matthew Allaire (Buffalo Grove High), Melina Blank (Hersey High), Grace Coveliers (Elk Grove High), Elizabeth Ferrazza (Hersey High), Jeongmin Lee (Prospect High), Santiago Leyva (Rolling Meadows High), Justin Meyer (Rolling Meadows High), Yalixa Segundo (Wheeling High) and Natalia Soro (Prospect High). A one-year academic scholarship was also awarded to: Grace Groeling (Hersey High '20) currently a Loyola University-Chicago student.
Each year, the SAF Dollars for Scholars also awards the Charles E. Priester $4,000 Academic Scholarship, named in honor of Charles E. Priester, one of the founders of the SAF Dollars for Scholars chapter. Sidney Lee, a 2022 graduate of Buffalo Grove High School, is this year's recipient of the Priester Scholarship.
The George and Christine Winandy Academic Scholarship was awarded to Emily Butryn (Hersey High '20) currently a University of Illinois at Chicago student and to Santino Macaggi (Buffalo Grove High '22). The Winandy $4,000 Academic Scholarships are awarded to students majoring in science, math, computer technology, education, music or nursing.
The Lyn J. Kearns Academic Scholarship was awarded to Jessica Stavros (Wheeling High '19) currently an Illinois State University student. The Kearns $4,000 Academic Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in education or nursing.
The Nicholas J. Helmer $4,000 Academic Scholarship was awarded to Gabriel Dubowski, a 2022 graduate of Hersey High School. This scholarship is named in memory of Prospect Heights Mayor Nicholas J Helmer and is awarded to a student residing in Prospect Heights or Wheeling.
Through its scholarship program SAF Dollars for Scholars, a community-based 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, raises money to help residents of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, and Wheeling achieve their post-high school educational goals. SAF Dollars for Scholars is a chapter of Scholarship America®, the nation's largest private non-profit scholarship organization.
SAF Dollars for Scholars holds one fundraiser annually to support its scholarship program. On Aug. 22 the annual golf outing will be held at Rolling Green Country Club in Arlington Heights. The $175 Individual/$650 Foursome registration fee includes a round of golf, golf cart, lunch, reception, and golfing awards. A silent auction and raffles are also featured.
