Letter: Newman is a true progressive
Democratic voters across DuPage have a decision to make when it comes to the upcoming June 28 primary between progressive Marie Newman and corporate-funded moderate, Sean Casten.
Corporate Political Action Committee funded candidate Casten, hoping with fingers crossed that he can sell himself to the voters of the politically astute residents of Chicago's Southwest Side, has an uphill battle. Even after the pandemic, he opposes Medicare for All, is against student debt cancellation, and he has accepted nearly $1 million in corporate money - including from BP, Chevron, Humana, and JPMorgan Chase - all companies that block meaningful legislation like the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and student debt cancellation.
Marie Newman on the other hand, is a proven progressive who has delivered for her district. She's secured over $240 million in funding for her district, and she's accomplished a lot - reducing train delays up to 100%, expanding small business grants, and cutting postal delays - all while rejecting all corporate money.
Marie Newman has the capacity to unite this district by the firmness of her convictions to get things done. She has a voice and experience and is not afraid to speak up and lead on issues without checking in with her financial backers.
She is the person the Republicans fear the most, a woman fighting for reproductive rights, tackling corporate greed, and going to bat for working families. Marie will continue to support fairness and equity in the workplace. Marie will work to resolve issues that protect our children in their schools and in the streets where no one is safe from a random bullet because the NRA and their cronies will not allow laws to pass.
She is the candidate who deserves your vote in the Sixth Congressional District by June 28 or sooner if you want to vote early or by mail.
