Medela campaign to combat formula shortage

MCHENRY - With the current formula and donor milk shortages affecting families across North America, Medela is launching a monthlong #MomsUnite4Milk pumpathon and educational campaign.

Even prior to the shortage, there has been a trending rise in demand for donated breast milk for years, with a 22% increase alone from 2020 to 2021, said Medela, a leading maker of breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies.

Through the monthlong pumpathon, Medela is offering breast milk bags and educational resources for those who want to donate their breast milk, said Jeff Castillo, executive vice president for the Americas at Medela. The company is also offering support to nonprofit milk banks so they can continue to serve the community of families who rely on them to provide the essential nutrition they need for their baby.

"Families need support now, and we're committed to doing what we can to address this crisis," Castillo said.
