Letter: An appeal to reason on gun laws
Maybe one day, reason will prevail and so will the voices of most Americans who support gun control, versus the idiotic political leaders who care more about their careers than the murders of innocent children and gun control legislation will be enacted as it has in most western and first world countries.
This is not to say the average person will be denied from owning a gun, but there are procedures and requirements that can be put in place like you find in most highly developed countries, that rarely have mass shootings or anywhere near the number of murders per capita, which will help to minimize guns getting in the hands of those who are most dangerous or when people are most angry.
The laws would prevent being able to obtain various automatic weapons, ensure background checks are conducted on all purchases, significant delays to get weapons and that require gun registration and annual registrations and gun U.S.e/safety training. There would also be restrictions regarding the type and who would be allowed to buy body armor.
For those who say guns don't kill people, people do, well why do we have more mass shootings than all other Western countries combined? That's because we have more guns than all other western countries combined and the most lenient gun laws. Also, after accidents, the number one cause of death for people 19 and under is being shot.
Now many shootings have been stopped by others who were made aware of crazy behavior and threats, but parents, teachers, students, etc., all need to be trained in how to identify the signs of a potential shooter and to report suspicious behavior immediately, something that more companies are teaching their personnel to minimize workplace violence.
