Two men charged in Waukegan murder
Two Waukegan men have been charged in a fatal shooting Sunday in Waukegan, authorities said Wednesday.
Fernando Andino, 19, was arrested Sunday after trying to escape police in a high-speed chase, a news release from the Lake County state's attorney's office said. He has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
Jorge Medina, 18, was arrested Monday morning and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, the news release said.
About 5 p.m. Sunday, Waukegan police responded to a shooting on the 1500 block of Washington Street. Stefan Filipovic, 24, of Waukegan later died at a hospital. Another gunshot victim survived.
Video footage from the area showed Medina exiting a vehicle driven by Andino and then shooting two men, according to the news release.
Authorities said Andino waited at the corner of Washington Street and Washington Park. then picked up Medina after the shooting.
Both appeared in court Wednesday morning. Medina was ordered held without bond, while bail was set at $3 million for Andino.
