Gamblers and inflation

Over $800 million was lost by gamblers in Illinois according to May 24 Daily Herald. Are these the same people complaining about inflation and $5 gas? Maybe it's a good thing they wasted their money rather than spend it on food and housing. Otherwise their spending on necessities probably would drive inflation even higher.
